With 120 miles of reef, the west coast of Hawaiʻi Island is the largest contiguous coral reef in the Hawaiian Archipelago, harboring a diversity of communities, from native Hawaiian villages to new subdivisions and urban areas, to tourism industry hotspots.

The new ʻĀkoʻakoʻa Reef Restoration Program is a shared stage for the integration of cultural knowledge, management, and science, seeding a deeper connection between coastal and coral communities in an era of climate change.
